Speak with doctor: Pelvic exams used to be done more or less automatically in all women, usually once a year starting age 16-20. Not so much any more, and many doctors would say you don't need it if your general health is good and menstration pattern normal. Pap smears are no longer advised in women who haven't had intercourse, and even then not before age 25. Speak with your doctor and decide together.

Its quick: You and your doctor will chat about why you are there. If an exam is needed, It may involved just looking at the outside. Sometimes (If the hymen permits) a small speculum is inserted into the vagina. Swabs of the cervix will be taken. Your doc may need to insert a gloved finger to check the uterus and ovaries. Its very quick and you are done. Best wishes!
