A member asked:

Hi, a lady with dementia ( 89 yrs old) will be staying with me for a bit over a week , how would you suggest helping her be most comfortable her?

Dr. Alvin Lin answered

Familiar surrounding: People w/dementia appear to do better in familiar surroundings. Since it's not always possible to keep them in same place, we recommend surrounding them w/photos of family & mementos of past experiences. If they have a pet, we try not to separate them from pet. Make sure there's enough light on in case she decides to wander around at night. Try to remove throw rugs, cords & other fall risk factors
