Encourage your: Friend to start with a medical evaluation by a physician. Yes ask her to: see an counselor/psychologist to talk over her issues so she can get rid of the depression as you put it. It is very common to seek help for both men and women and both have had to seek help for at least once their life to manage problems. Good luck. Psychiatrists are great for prescribing medicine to help depression, anxiety and other disorders.
