No don't mix drugs: Please don't mix ambien with benadryl (diphenhydramine). I would first suggest you speak with your doctor who prescribed you ambien and him/her that you are still experiencing insomnia. Mixing prescription medication with drugs like benadryl (diphenhydramine) can be dangerous. Perhaps you should improve your sleep hygiene first. Sleep same time every night, bed is used only for sleep, cool dark room, no distractions (TV) etc.

Not really OK: While there are no specific interactions reported between these two drugs, they are obviously both sedating and it is always a bad idea to combine two sedative-type drugs together. You completely can't predict how much one will add to the effect of the other. Don't do this in the future. Good wishes:)
