Not at all: Ambien is a prescription only sleep aid which works directly on the brain to reduce electrical activity thereby causing sleep. Benadryl (diphenhydramine) which is used for treatment of allergies causes sleep as a side effect by working on different than Ambien brain receptors called H1. Consult with a physician if you need to take sleep aids on a regular basis.
