Many things: On your own, you can make sure to eat healthy, non-processed foods. You can get consistent sleep and exercise. Studies show that exercise is as effective at relieving depression as antidepressants are. You can connect with friends and family. Spend time in nature, & projects that fulfill you. Please don't avoid getting professional help just because you think you should tough it out, though.

Get to know yourself: The better you know yourself the easier it will be to know what specifically can help alleviate some symptoms. Yoga and meditation have helped lots of people. If doing this doesn't appeal to you there are other things. Keep asking.

Agree with dr. Pappas, be open to a psychotherapy option -- just to have someone to offer you different perspective and guide you through the process.

Resources: A book i always recommend is 'feeling good' by burns. Good workbook for cognitive therapy. Been around for a long time available in paperback maybe even in used book store.

CBT book: See your md/do for accurate diagnosis. Could purchase a book on cognitive behavioral therapy such as the feeling good workbook by david burns - and begin working on it. Acupuncture, acupressure, yoga, tai chi. Psychiatric medications are sometimes indicated.

See another type...: A psychiatrist, social worker etc, a mental health professional is in your best interest: there is no shame in needing to see one, they are trained to help you, with behavioral or medicinal models you can be greatly helped; and there is no reason to"boot strap" yourself to mental health. We all need help in our lives at one time or another, myself included. Enjoy the rest of your life!
