Abrasion: The ear canal skin is extremely thin and sensitive. Any abrasion with a finger nail of cotton swab (which should never be placed in the ear canal) may cause bleeding. Outer ear infection or ear drum perforation also may be the etiology. Rarely skin conditions, lesions or tumors may cause bleeding.
