Can glycerine solution be given to a neonate for stool softening?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Be careful: A sliver of pediatric glycerine suppository may be given per rectum to a newborn with hard stools. That said, you need to first establish that the newborn has constipation and why. Newborns do not necessarily have to have a bowel movement daily. As long as they are comfortable and feeding well they can move their bowels up to every 7days and still be normal. You should stay away from oral laxative.
