I wish to have my blood sugar levels tested to see if i may be diabetic, but am currently taking amoxicillin for a cold. will this affect my reading?

No: amoxacillin won't make your blood sugar high on lab testing, however physical stress from an infection could. Rather than having a single blood sugar level drawn to screen for diabetes, have your doctor order a Hemoglobin A1C, this is now the preferred method of screen by most physicians since it tells you basically an average blood sugar for the past 3 months.
