Doc prescribed ciprofloxacin hydrochloride for an infection, reading possible side effects. how is this helping me, seems it could cause more issues?

Benefit vs. risk: If you really have an infection, then u need antibiotics to get better. It sounds like the doctor did not EXPLAIN what the problem was and WHY you need this therapy. Certainly antibiotics and other medicines can have side effects -your doc should be taking this into account with your treatment. I've used Cipro (ciprofloxacin) on hundreds of patients with good effect, but I think you need answers. Call if in doubt

Ask for alternative: Few doctors understand how commonly Cipro (ciprofloxacin) & related drugs cause serious side effects. While most folks do OK with them, a surprisingly high percentage experience debilitating long term toxicity. Thus, I only prescribe them for serious infections when there are no other antibioitcs that would help. Almost always there are safer choices.Ask your doc for a diff. med.
