Does overweight tie to blindness?

11 doctors weighed in across 3 answers

Not usually, but: Adolescent obesity is one of the risks for MS, which in turn may cause loss of vision due to optic neuritis. Metabolic syndrome or diabetes can be associated with weight gain and involvement of retina in eye, and of course obesity can be tied to stroke risk.

No evidence of this: There is no evidence that being overweight can directly lead to blindness or is a risk factor for blindness. It is true that obesity can cause disbetese and increases risk of other conditions which may lead to blindness if not treated appropriately. But obesity does not cause Blindness directly

If diabetic- yes: if overweight leads to diabetes, diabetes may lead to blindness if not controlled. Try to develop good eating habits and maintain a healthy weight for age. Also try to be physically active,
