Not usually: Damage done by a viral cold can enable pneumonia-causing pathogens to gain access, but this is not generally true for allergy. Allergy and poor nasal/sinus health will increase frequency of viral infections that can then open the door for pneumonia, usually only in susceptible populations. PND does not carry infection to the lung. In fact, automated reflexes in the throat cause it to be swallowed
