Unsure if true in US: It is not clear that hiv/aids has contributed to lower economic growth rates in the us as the prevalence of HIV infection in the us is not as high as others. However, hiv/aids has dramatically affected and decimated economies in many countries in africa because of the high prevalence. Many people infected with HIV in africa are in their productive years, but can't work thus affecting economy.
