When healed if @ all: Indications for hardware removal are pain and irritation. This may be seen in cases where there is irritation of an adjacent tendon or if there is skin irritation because the hardware is prominent. In cases where fixation occurs with distal locking of the tibia and fibula, removal of the hardware varies depending upon type of fixation used and progression of healing. Check with operative surgeon.
