A symptom: In most cases it is a symptom like fever that reflects hypervigilence & anxiety. It also reflects your past experience--most of us operate in a state of denial which reduces our anxiety about what could happen--ie if you are robbed it is likely you will be fearful of being robbed. Of course there are major disorders with paranoid delusional thinking & irrational fears & beliefs.
