Asked and answered: Didn't you just ask this question? The flu is a debilitating illness of fever, chills, muscle aches and pains. Depending upon the strain young people such as yourself are hit especially hard. One recent winter a disproportionate number of deaths were in young people. It can progress to a severe pneumonia. Side effects are mild. Serious side effects very rare. fear the flu, not the shot.

It's what we have: Using your immune system to generate protective antibodies is one of the great advances in healthcare dating back to smallpox in the 1700's. At any point there are at least 6 strains of flu circling the globe. Air travel mixes & spreads them fast. They can put up to 4 strains in a vaccine before weakening protection per strain. It's not perfect but I get one every year (X40+).
