Hard to say: without more details, but there may have been ultrasound abnormalities involving the sac which may have led to the suspicion of spontaneous abortion.

More info: a gestational sac of a certain size without the presence of a fetal pole suggests an impending miscarriage. if a gestational sac is seen, you have not yet had a spontaneous abortion.
