Hello doctor. a lab result show that i have a heavy growth of escherichia coli after 24hrs of incubation at 37degreec in the culture. could you please explain this to me and the dangers/risk associated with it. thank.

Culture: A sample was taken (stool? blood?) from your body and used to inoculate/infect nutrient rich culturing media (petri dish or vial). This media was kept in the lab at body temperature to see if a bacterial pathogen would grow (indicating it was originally present in your sample). Heavy growth means a lot of bacteria grew and that there was a relatively high level in the sample.

Depends: This depends on where the culture is from. For instance, if it is a urine sample, then you have a urinary tract infection. If it is in a stool sample, then you are totally normal. Refine your question and we'll be able to help you more. Take care!
