Trust advice: If there was a good indication for original tube placement, then it's reasonable to replace them. Based on the limited info, they certainly seemed to have helped and it is a low-risk procedure (more potential permanent damage with infections). That said, as the head matures, middle ear drainage can improve so that they may no longer be required. Follow your instinct and consult his pediatrician.

Depends: There are some kids like those with a cleft palate or other structural issue where keeping tubes in place is pretty standard. If the kid is under 4 and otherwise always has fluid in his middle ears it may also be a good idea. If he just had 1 ear infection in the 3-4 months since the tubes were lost & no other factors, I would wait until he shows a pattern that suggests a need.
