Be safe.: Anytime one has pitting edema of the foot and ankle, that moves on to calf and upper leg pain, IST or not, it would be advisable to waste little time in making sure a deep vein thrombosis is not involved. At least call your physician and let him/her know of your symptoms or take a trip to an urgent care.
