Get evaluated: causes may include a muscle strain specifically the tibialis anterior muscle which occupies the shin and the tendons run down the foot. this condition is also referred to as lace bite and can be caused by tight shoe laces. another cause is a stress fracture of the metatarsal bone/s usually will also include swelling and local tenderness if you press directly over the fracture site.
