A member asked:

Coul hypothyroidism go away after many years of taking synthroid (thyroxine)?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Depends on cause: If they thyroid was completely "dead", it is unlikely to recover. But there are a number of transient hypothyroid conditions that could have prompted your doc to put you on synthroid (thyroxine) in the first place. Transient conditions include subacute thyroiditis, post-partum thyroiditis.
