A member asked:

I had a cuticle tear in one finger that come in contact with blood on surface while working in the lab, any chance of contracting hiv/hepatitis c?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Precautions: Lab workers are encouraged to use universal precautions such as gloves, and other protective gear to lower the risk of accidental exposure. An open wound directly exposed to bloody surfaces in the lab is just the sort of risk we seek to reduce. Your risk may still be low, but if you don't know the source's status, then you'll live with some uncertainty Post-exposure prophylaxis- consider.
