Can you please tell me how minor depression and major depression differ?

Functioning: One defining difference is the ability to function. People with mild depression are still able to do their daily activities even if they are feeling sad and tired. Those with major depression are not able to keep up with tasks at work/home. They may be calling in sick to work a lot or running late. The chores at home are not getting done. They may also have suicidal thoughts.

Minor Depression: Minor depression is more officially called dysthymia and as mentioned earlier can refer to just a generally lower level of symptoms. Frequently people see dysthymia having a longer trajectory and may not be as amenable to treatment in some forms. So best to get a good evaluation and helps asap. I like Seigel, The Upward Spiral for some great self-help advice.
