Depression: Major or Minor depression is distinguished by how long you have had symptoms of depression, and how debilitating these symptoms are. What matters is that you ask for help from a health care provider, therapist, or counselor to determine whether talk therapy or medication may be needed. Don't ignore these symptoms. Let your friends and family know you have them, and let them help you.

It matters: Inherited biologically driven depression and Bipolar Disorder are different conditions from each other. Situational or minor depression is not something you inherit. The therapeutic approach differs. No two people are alike. Its important to know what you are dealing with. Bipolar disorder comes in degrees as well. Usually this is treated with mood stabilizers with or without antidepressants.
