A member asked:

Had pulmonary function test done with impression "mild restrictive defect" and "reduced diffusion".what could these mean?hyperreact. by methacholine

Different things:: it would be best to discuss in details with your doctor.. Restrictive means reduced ability of lungs to expand, as opposed to obstructive, which refers to the ease of passage of air through airways (and picked up by methacholine provocation). Diffusion is process of transfer of oxygen across the lungs membranes.. I would think they all needed to be considered in the clinical context..Good luck!
