No: Straightening teeth with ortho appliance at age 20 will NOT widen the smile or lips from left to right. In some cases, the smile may appear to be wider after ortho but if you measure the width before and after the treatment the width will be the same.

Probably: Talk to a fully qualified Orthodontic Specialist (initial exam usually free). The shape and "presentation" of your smile can be altered. if skeletal support is compromised, surgical changes are available. if mouth opening too narrow, consultation with a Plastic Surgeon may be in order. Talk to an Orthodontist, he/she will know what to do.
