Evaluation needed: I'm sorry you are worried. This is not normal development at 22 months of age. Kids should be able to sit on their own by 6-9 months. They should be able to walk without support by 18 months. He will need to be evaluated by a pediatrician as soon as possible to see what the underlying cause may be. Has he been seen by a doctor up until this point? If so, did he/she notice anything?

Immediate Evaluation: Your son needs immediate evaluation for his developmental delay. A child should be able to sit unsupported by 9 months and stand without support between 12 month and 15 month. At almost two years of age he should be able to run, walk up stairs, etc. His developmental delay could be a neurological or metabolic. He needs a thorough evaluation.
