Need more info: Gum disease can be minor enough that a professional cleaning and good oral hygiene will eliminate it. In it's more severe form surgery and/or laser therapy is necessary. Remember gum disease can be put in remission and kept there with the right oral hygiene and professional cleanings.....But you don't cure it.

Will vary : That will depend upon the extent and severity of the periodontal problems, along with any associated medical and dental issues. Have your dentist evaluate your particular situation and discuss treatment options and prognosis for success.

Control the bateria: Bacteria cause the infection and bad breath. Brushing and flossing are not enough. Consider the perio protect method (www.Perioprotect.Com) to find a doctor near you who can help. The ppm was shown to be better than deep cleaning (j clin dent 2012) and it killed 99.98% of the bacteria (j dent res 2007). Control the cause and you can control the disease/effects.

Gum disease: Gum disease is an infection/inflammation. It can cause damage to other organs including heart, brain, kidneys, pancreas, etc. Treatment will vary depending on the severity of your disease. Call your Dentist for a diagnostic evaluation. Once a firm diagnosis has been established your Dentist will select the appropriate treatment, or referral to a specialist, to help you heal.
