Yes: Pars defect or spondylolysis can increaseing cause pain if defect worsens and there is more motion at defect site.. Sometimes bracing and reduction of activity is necessary to reduce pain followed by physical therapy ito strengthen spinal musculature. If bilateral defects occur vertebra can slip forward (spondylolisthesis) and put pressure on nerve roots and produce pain.
