A member asked:

Can a gluten free diet cause weight gain?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Possibly: Gluten needs to be eliminated from the diet of those genetically unable to digest this wheat protein. Others eliminate it because it is a form of a restricted diet since there are far fewer gluten free items to eat. Losing weight is a common goal of such persons. In most cases weight will be lost, but it is very possible with such a diet to ingest a lot of calories and therefore gain weight
