Caloric restriction: Gluten free diet by itself will not cause weight loss unless you reduce your caloric intake and increase catabolism by exercise. Depends: Depends on how sensitive you are to gluten. If sensitive, it can cause inflammation which can hinder weight loss. Also gluten containing foods are carbohydrates, and cutting back on carbs can help weight loss.
