Weight/Breast Redux: Weight loss surgery alters the stomache to reduce the amount of food and calories that can get through. Since breasts are mostly fat, they will also lose weight. Breast reduction is the surgical removal of breast tissue and fat to reduce breast size and improve shape.

Very Different.: Surgery designed to help patients lose weight does so in a fashion that the patients entire body is affected. In other words, patients will experience systemic weight-loss.
On the other hand, breast reduction surgery is an operation that targets the breasts only. It is indicated for patients who have disproportionately large breasts potentially associated with symptoms ( such as neck pain…).

What is the difference between weight loss surgery and breast reduction?

Plenty: Weight loss surgery involves reducing the capacity of food someone can eat by surgically altering the anatomy of the stomach. This can be done with a bypass, band or sleeve procedure. This results in total body weight loss including potentially the breast. Breast reduction is aimed at surgically removing breast tissue to decrease the size of the breast but doesn't affect other areas of the body.
