Hemorrhoids vs. ?: A small amount of mucus (? a teaspoon) after a bowel movement can be considered normal. Typically, as you describe, it wouldn't be after every BM. Bright red blood when wiping is typically from the anus and due to hemorrhoids (dilated veins) related to straining to pass stool. OK to watch for a week or two, but if persists, contact Doc. Persistent blood and mucus needs further evaluation.
