A member asked:

Lost 1st baby to ntd. i've been taking foliamin (4000mg folic acid) for 7 months. now i'm 10 weeks pregnant with my 2nd. when should i stop taking it?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

2 - 3 months: Folic acid for preventation of NTD is recommend to be taken until 2 - 3 months of pregnancy. The neural tube forms at around 3 weeks after conception, which is 5 weeks of pregnancy. Since 10 weeks pregnant could mean 8 weeks after conception, and 2 - 3 months could mean 1.5 - 2.5 months after conception, it is best to take the foliamin until 3 months of pregnancy.
