A member asked:

How effective is buspirone for treating obsessive compulsive disorder (ocd)?

Not as effective: as SSRIs such as sertraline (Zoloft) and citrapolam (Celexa) which produce an average of 40-60% reduction in OCD symptoms. Busipirone (Buspar) may have some benefit in managing anxiety but is not the first line pharmaceutical intervention for OCD.

Generally not: Data are limited on Buspar for OCD. Generally SSRI's or, if failed SSRI with antipsychotic augmentation or switch to TCA may be considered. Buspar has more efficacy demonstrated in the GAD literature.
