A member asked:

What must a doctor do if there is a do-not-resuscitate order in place?

Dr. Alvin Lin answered

Everything but CPR: If DNR order is in place, we should still do everything that's appropriate, short of resuscitation. However, due to semantics and such, we can still end up doing more than patient actually desired. That's why advance care directives esp living will and now POLST (http://www.polst.org/) are so important. Let your family know in advance what you (don't) want. Then let us know. In writing if possible
