Implant: if and only if the cavity is so extensive that the tooth is non restorable and needs to be first removed

Volume of Tooth: The volume(amount) of healthy tooth after all the decay has been removed plays a roll in determining if the tooth should be restored or removed. The location of the decay plays a roll, in that access to fill the tooth may also render the tooth none restoreable. The offending tooth would then be removed and a fixed partial denture or an implant can be placed at the site.

Not really effective: A dental implant doesn't fill a cavity. It replaces a tooth that has been lost. It would only be effective if the tooth was removed due to such extensive decay that it couldn't be restored.

Definitions: Dental implants may be an option for people who have lost a tooth due to gum disease, tooth decay, trauma or some other reason. A cavity is permanent tooth damage that a dentist has to repair with a filling or crown.
