Talk to your doctor : Xanax (alprazolam) is quicker acting but short-lived. It has a high addiction risk. An SSRI is preferred for long term use. Klonopin could be added for short term use till the SSRI starts to work.

Not right approach: As it can be highly addicting,it's not a good med to ask for specifically.Xanax (alprazolam) is short acting,&not good for SAD. If treatment is not working adequately, it is important to be frank with the physician treating you; additional treatment such as therapy, and/or med change may be needed. For combined anxiety (GAD) and depression (SAD) disorders, SSRI medications (eg fluoxetine) may be more effective
