They are similar: Librium and Xanax (alprazolam) are both 'benzodiazepines' which are used to treat anxiety. Librium has a longer time to peak than Xanax (alprazolam), meaning Xanax (alprazolam) works quicker. Librium has a longer half-life which means it hangs around in your system longer. Most of the time Librium is used for alcohol or benzo withdrawal. Xanax (alprazolam) is usually used for acute anxiety. Both are addictive.
