See dermatologist: Whenever a rash is spreading and becoming very painful (unless deeply scratched), it is an alarming sign and you need to see a dermatologist ASAP. If the rash is confined to only one vertical half of the body, then I would suspect shingles. If it is widespread, it needs be examined and treated ASAP.
