No specific number: A decision to perform surgery is not based on a particular number of dislocations, but is a lifestyle decision. In general all non-operative measures should have been exhausted such as physical therapy, possible brace wear, eliminating activities that increase likelihood of dislocation if feasible. Disruption of the medial patellofemoral ligament identified via MRI would be repaired.
