Not a good idea: The HCG diet is neither safe nor effective. It is not approved by the FDA. The hormone human chorionic gonadotropin is produced during pregnancy. The diet recommends severe calorie restriction--500-800 calories--which is likely why people lose in the short term, but it is not safe. And the HCG can contribute to edema and blood clots. Increase physical activity and restrict healthy calories a bit.
