Not a good idea: Chasing symptoms with Ativan/lorazepam is a bad idea. Settle yourself in a dark, relaxing place, practice your deep breathing/meditations, and you should fall asleep. Your anxiety will be less when you wake up. Ativan (all benzodiazepines) are terribly addicting. You should avoid them, managing your anxiety with non-drug methods mentioned above. If meds absolutely needed, safer ones available

That depends...: What is the dose of your ativan (lorazepam)? How much do you weigh? How sensitive are you to medication? Are you taking any other sedating medicines? In general, the maximum daily dose for adults is 10 mg daily, in divided doses, and the most you should take at one time is 4mg.

It is important to find the correct combination of medications with your Psychiatrist. Have a physical exam to rule out illness. If you are not confident in your Dr. see another for a 2nd opinion. Medications are not sufficient since they do not teach you coping. Psychotherapy with a Clinical Psychologist with expertise in multiple types of psychotherapy can help your medications to work better.
