A member asked:

Can you get a diffuse disc bulge at moment of accident or months years after?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Not the same as herniated: The disk is made of two types of cartilage: a softer inner nucleus pulposis and a fibrous stiffer annulus fibrosis. As we age, the connective tissue of the body dries out and becomes stiffer, producing wrinkles and bulges in our skin and other parts of our body sag and bulge as we age, including disks. Diffuse bulges are part of the normal aging process past adolescence, NOT caused by trauma.
