One of many factors: Like all chronic illness, heart disease has many causes including genetics, diet and lifestyle but undoubtedly stress contributes to risk of heart disease. In someone with pre-existing heart disease stress may trigger a heart attack. But many with stress never get clogged arteries. Whatever illness one may be at risk for will be worsened by stress.
