Why is it that i cough when laying down?

Cough: The most likely reason a person would cough when lying down is from post nasal drainage from the nose/sinuses. This could be due to allergies or sinus infection. Also, stomach acid reflux may also worsen on reclining leading to cough. Some people with heart failure have worsening breathing when lying flat and tend to prop up with pillows.
