And the reason...: And the reason for being at the doctor's was what? Men and women can have a hernia, which can be pushed out by bearing down (as if pushing out a big firm poop). A cough probably is too short to push out a hernia to see, but a finger up either side of the scrotum can sometimes feel a hernia without seeing it. Women can get a hernia in the same area, but are much less likely to have it than men are.
