You will be fine: While 4 Benadryl (diphenhydramine) is not normally recommended this dose will not do any permanent damage. The main side effect you will notice is increased sedation. Avoid driving or operating heavy machinery if you are taking Benadryl (diphenhydramine) at higher doses. I do not recommend Benadryl (diphenhydramine) nightly for insomnia. See doctor to discuss sleep habits and other ways in which you can get a better night sleep.

Benadryl (diphenhydramine): Depend on the milligram of the pill. You aren't going to die. Just be sure of the dosage. If having any extreme symptoms head to the ER.

Unlikely: Antihistamines have a high safety margin but you may end up with certain side effects from using more than the recommended dose. The side effects include dry mouth , fast heart beats, constipation, and can be dangerous for those with a cardiac rhythm issue. You need not go to the hospital even if you have taken 200 mg of Benadryl (diphenhydramine) but this is not the answer for insomnia. Get sleep study if chronic
