Mgt/Workup: The level is low and a supplement of Vitamin D is indicated. There are many causes and more information would be helpful. I would suggest a further workup include screening tests for kidney disease. If your son takes medications, some have been associated with vitamin D deficiency. His vitamin D: may be low but the ankle pain he gets may not be related to the low vitamin D. Also, when looking at Vit D levels total Vitamin D is important to know as well. Take him to foot/ankle doc to see what the ankle situation is.
